Darlene Evelyn Hinkle

Kill Devil Hills- Darlene Evelyn Hinkle, age 70, passed away on the evening of August  24, 2016 surrounded by her family in her own home.  Darlene was born Kingston, NY to Rolland Wilber and Evelyn Bell. She graduated from Princess Anne High School in Virginia Beach and married her high school sweet heart, Sam Hinkle. They were very happily married and just celebrated 50 years of marriage in January.  She was extremely close with her children Stacey and Sammy. Darlene’s house was always the place for happy social gatherings of their friends. She was dedicated mother who enjoyed fussing over her children and grandchildren during the holidays especially Christmas’s.  Later in life, Darlene became a local celebrity at Belks and Kitty Hawk Harris Teeters.

She is survived by her husband Samuel Hinkle III; son, Samuel Hinkle; daughter, Stacey Hinkle; grandchildren, Dustin Fentress, Darlene “Lena” Hinkle, and Sterling Hinkle; brother, Ted Wilber; and sisters, Linda Ryan.  Niece’s, Jeri Ryan, AnnaMarie Wilber Jordan, Katherine Becker, Nephew James Carrier, and Rollie Wilber.

In addition to her parents, Rolland and Evelyn Wilber, she was predeceased by her sister Michelle Carrier and nephew, Ben Carrier.

Services will be held Saturday August 27,  2016 at 6 PM  at Ocean View Baptist Church, 902 S. Virginia Dare Trail Rd. Kill Devil Hills, NC 27948, (Mile Post 9, Beach Road).

A reception will follow the services. Memorial donations in Darlene's honor may be made to a charity of your choice. Condolences to the family may be expressed at www.gallopfuneralservices.com.  Gallop Funeral Services, Inc. was entrusted with arrangements.
